God's Timing

The vision that God has given
And the things that He has planned,
May not happen right away
Or in ways that we understand

For often God's preparing us
For when that day arrives
When we will see the outworking
Of God's vision in our lives

Though it tarries, wait for it,
For it will surely come
God's timing never comes too late,
He'll accomplish what He's begun

God is never slow to act;
He will surely bring it to pass
We need not be anxious and despair,
But have peace within our hearts

For when it comes, we'll be released
Into what the Lord's prepared,
So we will fulfil all that He's planned
As we are being gently led.

The Leaven

Matthew 13:33-34

33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:

Luke 13:20-21

20 And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

Psalm 146:9

God's Promise
I look after strangers and I help the fatherless and the widow.

If you are living in a place where you don't feel that you belong, God will protect you. If you feel fatherless and need a Father's love, God will be a Father to you.

Bible Verse
The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. -Psalm 146:9

Psalm 103:1-5

Bless the Lord, O my soul
And all that is within me,
Forgetting not His benefits,
Nor forgiveness of iniquity
Bless Him, who brings healing
And redemption to our lives,
Crowning us with loving kindness
And with blessings, satisfies.

Jesus Heals Two Blind Men

Matthew 9:27-31

27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou son of David, have mercy on us.

28 And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.

29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

30 And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.

Psalm 116:6

God's Promise
I will guard those with a childlike heart.

God protects those who trust in Him with the simple heart of a child.

Bible Verse
The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. -Psalm 116:6

The Sneeze

They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-two students filing into the already crowded auditorium. With their rich maroon gowns flowing ... and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt.

Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and Moms freely brushed away tears.

This class would NOT pray during the commencements - not by choice, but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it.

The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed by the ruling. They gave inspirational and challenging speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked for blessings on the graduates or their families.

The speeches were nice, but they were routine ... until the final speech received a standing ovation.

A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone. He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened.

All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly SNEEZED!!!!

The student on stage simply looked at the audience and said, "GOD BLESS YOU, each and every one of you!" And he walked off stage ...

The audience exploded into applause. This graduating class had found a unique way to invoke God's blessing on their future with or without the court's approval.

This is a true story; it happened at the University of Maryland.

Romans 8:37

God's Promise
You are more than a conqueror through My love in Jesus Christ.

Even in the midst of all these things, we are more than conquerors through the love that God has poured out into our hearts through Jesus Christ.

Bible Verse
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
-Romans 8:37

Luke 10:25-37

"Good Samaritan"

25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

Faith Sets the Bow

And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the beau shall be seen in the cloud. (Genesis 9:14)

Just now clouds are plentiful enough, but we are not afraid that the world will be destroyed by a deluge. We see the rainbow often enough to prevent our having any such fears. The covenant which the Lord made with Noah stands fast, and we have no doubts about it. Why, then, should we think that the clouds of' trouble, which now darken our sky, will end in our destruction? Let us dismiss such groundless and dishonoring fears.

Faith always sees the bow of covenant promise whenever sense sees the cloud of affliction. God has a bow with which He might shoot out His arrows of destruction. But see, it is turned upward! It is a bow without an arrow or a string; it is a bow hung out for show, no longer used for war. It is a bow of many colors, expressing joy and delight, and not a bow blood-red with slaughter or black with anger. Let us be of good courage. Never does God so darken our sky as to leave His covenant without a witness, and even if He did, we would trust Him since He cannot change or lie or in any other way fail to keep His covenant of peace. Until the waters go over the earth again, we shall have no reason for doubting our God.

1 Peter 5:4

God's Promise
When Jesus appears, you will receive a crown of glory that will never dim.

All those who have called upon the name of the Lord throughout the centuries can hold on to this promise. When Jesus appears, each and every one of us will receive a crown of glory that will never fade away.

Bible Verse
And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. - Peter 5:4

Crane

Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me. -Isaiah 38:14

Desert Times

There are times in our lives,
The Lord may lead us through
A lifeless, barren desert,
A time of testing too

But desert times can be
A place of special growth,
Where God can do a work
And let His healing flow

I know that in these times,
We don't feel God is there,
We feel so very distant
And lost without His care

But God is there beside you
To bring you to a place
Of cool, refreshing waters
Flowing with His grace

But for the present moment,
You maybe in a drought,
Don't give up on your faith
And don't you start to doubt

God is always faithful
And He will walk with you,
Through the darkest moments,
He'll be leading you.

Matthew 13:43

God's Promise
At the end of the age, My righteous ones will shine like the sun in My kingdom.

What an amazing sight heaven will be! Millions of God's children, each one shining with the brightness of the sun, living for eternity in the kingdom of their Father.

Bible Verse
Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. -Matthew 13:43

The Mustard Seed

Matthew 13:31-32

31 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:

32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

Mark 4:30-34

30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:

32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.

34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

Luke 13:18-19

18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

Joshua 23:14

God's Promise
Not one of My promises will ever fail you.

May we all hold fast to the truth that every one of the promises that God has made to us will never ever fail.

Bible Verse
And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof. -Joshua 23:14

Matthew 6:31-34

Do not worry, nor be anxious
For what you'll eat or wear,
For God knows just what we need
So we need not live in fear

We needn't strive, nor seek these things,
For God provides what we need
And we shall live in His provision,
From His Abundance, we shall feed

So do not worry about tomorrow,
Just take one day at a time,
For tomorrow has worries of its own,
We need to leave it behind

We need to seek God's kingdom first
Then all these things will be given,
Also, to seek His righteousness
And keep our eyes on Heaven.

Jesus Raises Jairus' Daughter to Life

Matthew 9:18

While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

Matthew 9:23-26

23 And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,

24 He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

25 But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.

26 And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.

Mark 5:21-24

21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

Mark 5:35-43

35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

1 Corinthians 2:9

God's Promise
I have prepared amazing things for those who love Me.

1 Corinthians 2:9 says that even in our wildest imagination we can't possibly fathom the amazing things that God has prepared for us. In verse 10, it reads that even though we can't grasp these amazing things in our own ability, God has chosen to reveal them to us by His Spirit.

Bible Verse
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. - 1 Corinthians 2:9

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

His name is Bill. He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with holes in it, jeans and no shoes. This was literally his wardrobe for his entire four years of college. He is brilliant. Kind of esoteric and very, very bright. He became a Christian while attending college. Across the street from the campus is a well dressed, very conservative church. They want to develop a ministry to the students, but are not sure how to go about it.

One day Bill decides to go there. He walks in with no shoes, jeans, his T-shirt, and wild hair. The service has already started and so Bill starts down the aisle looking for a seat. The church is completely packed and he can't find a seat. By now, people are really looking a bit uncomfortable, but no one says anything. Bill gets closer and closer and closer to the pulpit, and when he realizes there are no seats, he just squats down right on the carpet. (Although perfectly acceptable behavior at a college fellowship, trust me, this had never happened in this church before!) By now the people are really uptight, and the tension in the air is thick.

About this time, the minister realizes that from way at the back of the church, a deacon is slowly making his way toward Bill. Now the deacon is in his eighties, has silver-gray hair, and a three-piece suit. A godly man, very elegant, very dignified, very courtly. He walks with a cane and, as he starts walking toward this boy, everyone is saying to themselves that you can't blame him for what he's going to do. How can you expect a man of his age and of his background to understand some college kid on the floor?

It takes a long time for the man to reach the boy. The church is utterly silent except for the clicking of the man's cane. All eyes are focused on him. You can't even hear anyone breathing. The minister can't even preach the sermon until the deacon does what he has to do. And now they see this elderly man drops his cane on the floor. With great difficulty, he lowers himself and sits down next to Bill and worships with him so he won't be alone. Everyone chokes up with emotion. When the minister gains control, he says, "What I'm about to preach, you will never remember. What you have just seen, you will never forget."

Be careful how you live. You may be the only Bible some people will ever read.

Matthew 5:8

God's Promise
Those who are pure in heart will see My face.

The reason that we will be able to see God and not be consumed is because of Jesus and the price that He paid so that His life would become our life.

Bible Verse
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. -Matthew 5:8

Exodus 32

"Golden calf"

Exodus, Chapter 32

Divine Recompense

He that watereth shall be watered also himself. (Proverbs 11:25)

If I carefully consider others, God will consider me, and in some way or other He will recompense me. Let me consider the poor, and the Lord will consider me. Let me look after little children, and the Lord will treat me as His child. Let me feed His flock, and He will feed me. Let me water His garden, and He will make a watered garden of my soul. This is the Lord's own promise; be it mine to fulfill the condition and then to expect its fulfillment.

I may care about myself till I grow morbid; I may watch over my own feelings till I feel nothing; and I may lament my own weakness till I grow almost too weak to lament. It will be far more profitable for me to become unselfish and out of love to my Lord Jesus begin to care for the souls of those around me. My tank is getting very low; no fresh rain comes to fill it; what shall I do? I will pull up the plug and let its contents run out to water the withering plants around me. What do I see? My cistern seems to fill as it flows. A secret spring is at work. While all was stagnant, the fresh spring was sealed; but as my stock Rows out to water others the Lord thinketh upon me. Hallelujah!

Philippians 1:6

God's Promise
I began the good work in you and I will finish it.

It has always been His work, not ours. It is God's heart, God's vision, and God's power that will bring about all that He has planned and purposed in our lives.

Bible Verse
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: -Philippians 1:6

Cow

And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. -Isaiah 11:7

That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. -Daniel 4:25

Refreshing Waters

Sometimes I feel I'm in a desert,
Trying to find my way —
The heat beating down with no relief
With no shelter through the day

Day and night, I cry out to God
That He will come to my aid
And just when I feel like giving up,
In His refreshing waters, I wade

For God supplies streams of hope
That flows to wash over me
It seems, though, for a brief moment,
A short and temporal relief

Then once again I'm in the desert,
Enduring the heat and the wind
Not long, O Lord, I start to pant
For refreshing waters within

I have to stop and ask myself,
Why am I where I am?
It seems I'm wandering aimlessly
With no purpose, direction or plan

I long, O God, to find a way out,
No longer to be in this place —
When, O God, shall I be released
And dwell in your mercy and grace?

I long for your refreshing waters
To daily be part of my life,
To continually be immersed in the streams
Of the blessings that flow from Christ.

The Weeds Among the Wheat

Matthew 13:24-30

24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Psalm 100:5

God's Promise
My love is everlasting and My faithfulness extends to all generations.

Our God and Father is good and His mercy will go on forever and ever. The more that you and I are convinced of the goodness of God, the more we will yield to the extravagant love that He showers on us every day.

Bible Verse
For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. -Psalm 100:5

Philippians 4: 13

I have strength for all things
Through Christ who empowers me
I'm ready for anything that comes my way,
Even what I may not foresee
For it is Christ who infuses me,
Strengthening me in His might
And I am sufficient in His sufficiency
With the power of Christ inside.

Jesus Heals a Woman in the Crowd

Matthew 9:20-22

20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

Mark 5:25-34

25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

Luke 8:42-48

42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.

43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,

44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.

45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.

Psalm 36:6

God's Promise
My righteousness towers like the mountains and My justice goes deep as the sea.

If we look for it, every aspect of nature will help us comprehend the greatness of our God.

Bible Verse
Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord, thou preservest man and beast. -Psalm 36:6

Maybe....

Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one, which has been opened for us.

The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the Best conversation you've ever had.

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pluck them from your dreams and hug them for real!

Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.

Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way; Happiness lives for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives.

Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear.

The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.

Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

Isaiah 55:10-11

God's Promise
My Word will not return to me until it accomplishes what I intended.

Be comforted in knowing that every word that our Father speaks will not return to Him empty, but will accomplish what it sets out to do!

Bible Verses
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. -Isaiah 55:10-11

Matthew 13:5

"Fell on rocky ground"

Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:

Gaining by Giving

The liberal soul shall be made fat. (Proverbs 11:25)

If I desire to flourish in soul, I must not hoard up my stores but must distribute to the poor. To be close and niggardly is the world's way to prosperity, but it is not God's way, for He saith, "There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, and it tendeth to poverty." Faith's way of gaining is giving. I must try this again and again, and I may expect that as much of prosperity as will be good for me will carne to me as a gracious reward for a liberal course of action.

Of course, I may not be sure of growing rich. I shall be fat but not too fat. Too great riches might make me as unwieldy as corpulent persons usually are and cause me the dyspepsia of worldliness, and perhaps bring on a fatty degeneration of the heart. No, if I am fat enough to be healthy, I may well be satisfied; and if the Lord grants me a competence, I may be thoroughly content.

But there is a mental and spiritual fatness which I would greatly covet, and this comes as the result of generous thoughts toward my God, His church, and my fellow men. Let me not stint, lest I starve my heart. Let me be bountiful and liberal, for so shall I be like my Lord. He gave Himself for me; shall I grudge Him anything?

Hebrews 10:36

God's Promise
If you persist and do My will, you will receive what I have promised.

God is saying that if we will just believe in Him and obey His leading, that we will receive all that He has promised in His Word.

Bible Verse
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. -Hebrews 10:36

My Closest Friend

I place my hope in you,
For you alone are Lord
There could never be another,
I could ever love more

There's no one that comes closer
To you in my life,
For you are my closest friend,
In whom I can confide

And share my deepest longings,
My hurts and my fears,
Knowing you will understand
And wipe away my tears

Knowing I can come to you,
Morning, noon and night,
You will never turn me away,
But give ear to my plight

And you will not condemn me,
Nor judge what I say,
For you are full of constant love
And listen when I pray

Your love was such that you died,
My soul, you came to save
From certain eternal misery
Awaiting beyond the grave

But now, in you, I can be sure
Of eternity with you,
Freed from pain and misery
With eternal joy too.

Matthew 6:8

God's Promise
I know what you need before you even ask.

Jesus tells us in this passage of Scripture that our God and Father is so attentive to our needs that He actually knows what we need before we even ask Him for it.

Bible Verse
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. -Matthew 6:8

The Barren Fig Tree

Luke 13:6-9

6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Isaiah 61:1

God's Promise
I open prison doors and set captives free.

His proclamation of freedom is as relevant today as it was the day that Isaiah penned these words. God wants us to be completely free because where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.

Bible Verse
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; -Isaiah 61:1

Psalm 130: 5-8

Wait with expectancy
For the Lord to come through
And place your hope in His word
That He has given you
Keep on looking and waiting
For the Lord to arrive
As a watchman for the morning,
Wait for His reply
And put your hope in the Lord,
In His mercy and His love,
For He is our redemption
From the sins that bound us up.

Jesus Drives Out an Evil Spirit

Mark 1:21-27

21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.

27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

Luke 4:31-36

31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.

36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

2 Peter 2:9

God's Promise
I will rescue the godly from all their troubles.

We do not have the time or space to unpack the consequences of their decision back in the garden, but it is important for each one of us to know that God's intent for us has never changed.

Bible Verses
The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: -2 Peter 2:9

Praying for Ice Cream

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen." Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never! "Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?"

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer." "Really?" my son asked.

"Cross my heart." Said the old man!

Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes, and my soul is good already.

Psalm 30:5

God's Promise
My displeasure may last for a moment, but My favor is yours for life.

If we in our humaness feel this way towards our children, how much more does our Heavenly Father feel this way towards us.

Bible Verse
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. -Psalm 30:5

Matthew 24:24 and Mark 13:22

"False prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing"

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. -Matthew 24:24

For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. -Mark 13:22

The Bible's First Promise

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (Genesis 3:15)

This is the first promise to fallen man. It contains the whole gospel and the essence of the covenant of grace. It has been in great measure fulfilled. The seed of the woman, even our Lord Jesus, was bruised in His heel, and a terrible bruising it was. How terrible will be the final bruising of the serpent's head! This was virtually done when Jesus took away sin, vanquished death, and broke the power of Satan; but it awaits a still fuller accomplishment at our Lord's second advent and in the Day of Judgment. To us the promise stands as a prophecy that we shall be afflicted by the powers of evil in our lower nature, and thus bruised in our heel; but we shall triumph in Christ, who sets His foot on the old serpent's head. Throughout this year we may have to learn the first part of this promise by experience, through the temptations of the devil and the unkindness of the ungodly, who are his seed. They may so bruise us that we may limp with our sore heel; but let us grasp the second part of the text, and we shall not be dismayed. By faith let us rejoice that we shall still reign in Christ Jesus, the woman's seed.

Matthew 5:6

God's Promise
I will fill those who hunger and thirst for My righteousness.

Jesus deals with this issue of spiritual hunger and promises that our Heavenly Father will fill every hungry and thirsty heart.

Bible Verse
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. -Matthew 5:6

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. -Isaiah 11:8

Saved

Jesus saved us from our sins,
He forgives us and He heals
Our hope and salvation rest in Him
And is sure, despite how we feel
For sometimes Satan attacks our minds,
Causing us to fear and doubt,
We wonder if we're saved at all,
We forget Jesus blood poured out
When we confessed our sins to Him,
He cleansed us and forgave
We need not doubt, but believe that we
Have been wonderfully, graciously saved.

Matthew 13:11

God's Promise
I will show you the mysteries of My kingdom.

Our God and Father loves to show us what He is up to by the Spirit which He has given us.

Bible Verse
He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. -Matthew 13:11

New Cloth on an Old Garment

Matthew 9:16

No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

Mark 2:21

No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

Luke 5:36

And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.

Revelation 2:7

God's Promise
Those who overcome will eat from the tree of life in paradise

Jesus reminds us that those who overcome will be restored to even more glory than what Adam and Eve enjoyed before they fell.

Bible Verse
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. -Revelation 2:7

Galatians 5:1

We have truly been set free,
For Christ has redeemed us;
We can walk in His holy power
And know His saving love

May we stand fast in this freedom,
Not to be again ensnared
By the heavy yoke we once had borne
When spiritually, we were dead

But thanks be to God,
Who has given us the liberty,
Who has resurrected us
To walk in His victory.
